Lion DancingIt’s Chinese New Year, this year being year of the rat. We were out to celebrate with friends at Chung Ying in Birmingham’s Chinese Quarter this week when they brought red envelopes round to all the tables for us to put money in for the “line dancers”. We thought this just a little strange and after a couple of wisecracks about dosie-does and taking your pardner by the hand we realised they had actually said Lion Dancers and it all made sense.

Accompanied by an entrance of firecrackers and with drummers the lion then came round every table in the restaurant to collect the red envelopes. The lion was escorted by a Chinese Frank Sidebottom, which amused several from our party.

There are more celebrations at the Arcadian tomorrow, Sunday 10 February, from 12:00 onwards. The Birmingham Flickrmeet group will be having it’s February Flickrmeet down there so there should be some good shots turning up in the pool in the next few days.
