Been a while since I posted anything. This was going to be a thinky piece about youtube and stuff but I’m not so great at marshalling my thoughts today, so it’s another one of those “here’s a great thing on the internet” posts. Well I wasted an evening laughing when I first came across it a few months back.
Stevie Riks is a comedy musical impressionist but don’t let that put you off. He has a great range of characters and there’s tons of clips up on YouTube. And he’s bloody funny.
As a starter I suggest Mick Jagger flogging his car, Macca making a cuppa, The Bee Gees and Bono trying to find a lottery ticket (you’ll see the punchline coming a mile off but that doesn’t make it any less funny).
Sorry if you end up wasting most of an afternoon.
An Early Example of lolspeak – circa 1987?

On a recent trip to the US I spotted this early example of lolspeak from 21 years ago, in the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
I didn’t spot the subtlety of it at the time. I though it was just a collection of license plates from various states. It was only when reviewing my shots later that I noticed the message contained within, which when I looked at the title of the piece again it was clear that it was the Preamble to the United States Constitution.
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
It’s called “Preamble” and the artist is Mike Wilkins.
Feline Vandalism
Our catflap has a locking mechanism on it so that we can set it to allow our cat in but not back out again.
We’ve had a few problems with a stray sneaking in and stealing food. It would seem last night it did it and when it couldn’t get out again it actually broke the flap in half to get out.
